6 Tips on getting work experience with a Fashion Brand?
Tip 1- Identify the Brands you want to work for- Start with identifying 15 brands that you are interested in gaining work experience for. If you don’t get a response from the first 15 brands, identify another 15 brands and repeat the steps.
Tip 2- Identify the area of work you want to work in?
Tip 3- Find the contact and connect- on linkedin (search for their company on linkedin, then go to all employees and connect with their recruiter/talent partner, Head of Department and CEO/Owner.
Tip 4- Go on the company website and indeed- some companies advertise summer internships on their website or indeed so you may be able to apply that way but I personally think it’s better to message on linkedin and be more pro-active.
Tip 5- Get your CV ready- Tailor your CV around the role you’re applying for. Make sure your bio/profile/summary at the top clearly explains what role you are interested in gaining experience in and WHY. Why do you want to gain experience in that brand specifically? You will need to amend this part of your CV in every single CV you send to each brand. It’s extra work but tailored CV’s are much more effective than a generic CV.
Tip 6- Don’t send a cover letter- most people don’t have time to read cover letters. Send a personalised short paragraph/message when sending your CV and re-iterate what your summary in your CV says about why you are interested in a certain department, what relevant skills you may have and why that brand. Do your research in the brand you’re applying for and show them you know about the brand. (If you don’t know much about the brand then look on their website, social platforms and google to find out what’s been going on in their brand or who their customer profile is)
